@Ginger: Interesting, since I always assumed that Space Opera was just a step above Planetary Romance as far as realism goes.

Well it is certainly more realistic then most other Scifi pieces. As Ginger said.

@Purple Yeah, but it still bugs me. Having a masquerade was one of the biggest mistakes I feel Rowling ever made.

They could easily mask their spellcasting from cctvs. I've seen conceptual stuff for spellcasters to use a modified "shell" of a smartphone fitted with a magic mirror "touchscreen" to cast spells through the Focus of the tiny magic mirror. To those not in the know it just looks like some kind of custom Android hardware.

I hope Hollywood never gets around to doing a big budget MLP:FIM movie, because I'm not sure they could resist the urge to CGI the shit out of it and set it in the real world somehow.

Oh, yeah, I forgot those magic users aren't modernized so they don't think like I would if I could work that kind of magic, I'd totally use a "smartphone" focus rather than a wand.

I wouldn't minjd if it results in ARG pony apps for smartphones :3

But CCTV is everywhere in modern Britain. It's impossilbe to avoid. The wizards would get caught eventually.

What's always bugged me about Masqureades is that they really only exist to keep the "sanctity" of real life in tact. Apparently nobody wants to explore the implications of fantastical/uber-science stuff getting out in public and how it effects both sides.

In fact I don't think there is any pony meets human fanfics that do that either.

Wands? Well I'm more familiar with wandless casting, like Spellcards, computerized Intelligent Devices, staves with knobs on the end or Hex-assisted "computerized" casting , and direct-from-soul magic.

@Ginger: If it makes you feel better, Rowling herself confirmed that a magicless human can still kill a wizard with a shotgun or even a handgun, because the average wizard is less survival-savvy than the average human, especially a human packing heat.

A threat Pony Magic by itself cannot overcome?
