@crow I think she means that the fandom has a habit of calling Madoka more realistic than other magical girl shows or a deconstruction of the genre when (imo) it isn't.

The rules of the magical girls in MM are just as fantastical as in any other show, they're just darker and crueller. Darker=/=Realistic

@ginger Whoops, you're on part 1. Roku was the Avatar before Aang. He gets a flashback episode in Season 3, and he pops up to give Aang advice. Also, he has a dragon.

@Ginger: Yes, that's exactly what I mean. Particularly when they make it sound like the existence of Madoka Magica as a show is going to somehow negate the existence of any future magical girl shows that are on the idealistic side of the infamous "sliding scale, " like that it's going to make all future magical girl stories be Darker and Edgier because it's "changed the genre forever." I'm happy to say that did NOT happen with Pretty Cure, at least, the latest series, Smile Pretty Cure, is the funniest yet in my biased opinion.

I like Spike because Spike is awesome annd I like the way dragons work in this world.

Simply having them in a story does not automatically make it awesome

@ginger There's an episode in Season 3 (can't remember the name) that explains about dragons in the Avatar universe. They were hunted for sport, and are extinct now.

@Rainbow: I'll admit that I think that that argument is stupid as well. But it's still exactly my type of show. I love fiction that brings it's characters through awful circumstances becuase such things inspire me.

@storyyeller A deconstruction is taking a genre and seeing how it's conventions would work in a real world setting.

All the angst stems from the fucked up way in which the magical girls work in PMMM, and Kuubey's method of creating magical girls is not more realistic than the methods seen in anything else.

Also, I agree with Rainbow in the way the fandom seems to look down on Magical girl shows that AREN'T PMMM.
