The Waterbending master is when they first arrive in the North Pole.

No The Deserter is far more important than Jeong Jeong. It makes Aang's fear of firebending.

Yes but you need it to understand why Aang is reluctant to learn firebending.

My sister's a die-hard Avatar fan, and even she thinks the first season is pretty boring compared to the rest. I don't remember much about it, but I'm inclined to agree with her and the others in this thread.
