What problems do you have with Book 1?

EDIT: Oh, Zuko becomes a completely different character in the later seasons. What don't you like about him?

EDIT 2: Ah, I see. Azula makes a very good replacement for Zuko, although I prefer Zhao.

I agree with the not caring much about Zuko in season one, but I was willing to put up with him for Iroh.

Zuko runs on unstoppable determination, which isn't the kind of villain he likes to see.

Azula would be more his flavor, she's the wickedly competent chessmaster type.

I imagine Ginger doesn't like Zuko's lack of competence. He keeps at it I'll give him that, but he doesn't have many other perks at being a capable villain. Not like Azula.

@Bad I don't want to say that, cuz I haven't seen it. but it's definitely tripping a lot of warning signs.

I like Villainous Valor as much as the next guy. The problem is that, as you've told me, the Valor doesn't STAY villainous

Sorry to have dredged up this topic, I know that someone wanted me to tell them how Korra was.

Anyway, I hardly think of Zuko as a villain. He barely does anything during Season 1, and he spends most of Season 2 as a vagrant. Season 3 is probably the best Zuko, although judging from your tastes, ginger, you probably still wouldn't like him.

Yeah, I asked Sky Strike how Korra was. I might give it a look. I certainly enjoyed At LA enough, and the new series does sound interesting. The Season 1 villain's role is largely filled by the Admiral I think.

Admiral Zhao has the position of Big Bad of Season One, but there are others.

He shows up in...Episode three? If my memory serves.

Theoretically, if it's not Zuko, you might say it's Zhao. He was the one leading the siege of the Northern Water Tribe.

I think Zuko is definitely a villain in Series 1. Zhao (I personally think he's impressive but I don't think many others do) is also a villain in the first series.

Admiral Zhao is probably the overall Big Bad of season one, although he doesn't show up as often as Zuko does.

@ginger Zuko, but it's an odd situation. On one hand, Aang is the protagonist, and very likable, so you want him to win. On the other hand, Zuko, who is trying to regain his honor, needs to capture Aang to do so. And then there's Zhao, who's trying to get Aang for himself and get the glory. It's not so much protagonist vs antagonist as it is protagonist vs ambiguous vs antagonist.

Damn ninjas.

Zhao is very ambitious and pretty smart, his plans tend to work with just a few details he didn't plan for working against him. I don't think you'd like his first episode though.

He's rather smart, his plan is incredibly evil (and involves MURDERING THE MOON), you might like his Large Ham-ness.

His introduction however, is not great.

The only things I remember him doing are kidnapping Aang instead of killing him so he couldn't reincarnate, and killing the Moon Spirit to rob the Northern Water Tribe of their Waterbending.

Zhao is ambitious and has a lot of military might to back him. I can't really remember him being especially machiavellian in his planning, but he still presents a formidable opponent.
