I think the idea is that, since Harry's upbringing was so radically different, it ended up having a universe-wide ripple effect that changed certain things... like Quirrel not acting like a coward.

Analysis time! I'm crossposting this from another forum:

Given the amount of wonderful toys Twilight seems to pack in-show, and the recent announcements about the Royal Wedding Season Two Finale, I have more than ample reason to suspect that Twi is really a Canterlot noble, although she's certainly not a snob.

The more we see of her personal book collection, her telescopes, her !Science! equipment, and even a hot-air balloon, to say the least about her brother soon to be married to a Princess and probably a Knight of some kind himself, it all adds up to Twi having some noble money to her. Of course, given her bookwormish, cute geek-girl style, she's more likely to use her noble money to buy all the wonderful equipment and books she's got instead of flaunting it on the usual decadent noble wastage. She certainly doesn't seem to abuse her nobility like some of the more stuck-up Canterlot socialites.

To a point, this also makes the Gabby Gums accusations hurt her even more, because she's being compared to the same snobs that most likely bullied her for various reasons before she became Celestia's personal student and then became THE pony to suck-up to in case they could get favours from the Princess by proxy through her student. Given the way she remembers the mockery aimed at her in Lesson Zero, I really think she took being compared to the same bullies that made her kindergarten class a personal hell hard.

For those who were wondering earlier, I'm an earth pony who wants to be a unicorn.

I'm sure that there are cases of unicorns wanting to be earth ponies though. Maybe they want to be a strong, tough farmer or something. Or maybe they're jealous of Pinkamena Diane Pie, Bearer of the Element of Laughter's spacial manipulation and Pinkie sense.

Well, Ace of Scarabs, I've been documenting it. I don't know much about this "Fourth wall" but I've realised that Pinkamena Diane Pie, Bearer of the Element of Laughter manipulates the basal componants of time and space in a way that could theoretically be performed by any earth pony. Unfortunately, it appears to be impossible for those who realise what they're actually doing, so I can't do it.

It seems to be. It comes down to Doctor Wizened Birch's uncertainty theorem. Such basal magical forces cannot be observed and manipulated simultaneously. As such, she cannot activate such abilities while watched or while she knows what she's doing. She can however, leave them active while she's being observed.
