Meh, I've felt that most of the characters have had a bit of Flanderization in this season. Dash's was just the most obvious.

@stevebat: I think her Jerk Ass episodes were easier to enjoy when they started her nicer ones to balance it out (eg. Over The Barrel and Hurricane Fluttershy, which were somewhat later on). I think people may have been worried because she was getting one Jerk Ass episode after the other for a while with few redeeming episodes.

That's maybe why Applejack looks more limited, only she is getting her nicer roles played more than her Jerk Ass ones instead.

Truth be told some may have considered Lesson Zero heavy flanderization if Twilight wasn't playing sane roles again afterwards. It's a matter of balance.

I think I was 26th last time. Even though I've been here for ages, I didn't start spamming the thread incessantly until the last 4 months or so.

I'm actually surprised mine is as high as it it is. I was expecting it to be low- Ginger's post count is in the five digit numbers how is this possible

At the time, this was one of my main complaints about the episode.

I wouldn't mind seeing how my standing among the top posters has changed.

Well I could arrange for you to appear under a different name. I probably wouldn't want to take you out completely since other people would want to know your stats.

If it had been the future direction for the character in all episodes afterwards, I think it would have been a big problem. With her still harking to established characterization afterwards, it's a fun establishing moment that shows her solo appeal as a flawed character.

That's basically the problem with Flanderization, the depictions may not be awful per se, it's more they have become the only thing about the character. I don't think the later Jerk Ass Daffy Duck cartoons were a bad idea until they decided to use that concept in every damn short for example.

I still don't think Lesson Zero was that OOC for Twilight; it was a bit exaggerated, but given how she freaked out over stuff involving Celestia in earlier episodes I don't think it was blown up beyond reasonable proportions.

I think that we're using Flanderization wrong here. One instance of not focusing on the entirety of a character's characterization does not constitute that. It took years for the Trope Namer for that trope to morph into what he eventually became. In order for there to be any real Flanderization there has to be a consistent trend of oversimplifying characterizations, not isolated incidents of less depth that are later shown to not be permanent.

Maybe you could start working on some of those huge three dimensional puzzles, Kaiasha. That would fill up some time. Or you could start mastering peg solitaire

I disagree. I think that even in the context of past events it was to much. Not to mention it pretty much set the tone for her being OCD for most of the season.

Compare it to Swarm of the Century. I just thought that it was weird that she'd have the most extreme breakdown of anypony when her previous one was relatively understated.

@ lurker: But that's what I mean, Twilight's insanity in that episode would have been considered heavy flanderization if she hadn't reverted bad to normal in some later episodes. Instead of her sane bouts it's flanderization, alongside her sane bouts it just adds an extra facet to her character.
