It was too faint to really hate her for it (it was amusing seeing her get into the Holmes getup as much as Pinkie). Besides the majority of times Twilight or another pony is too smug or pompous it's usually a sign they're about to get taken down a peg or two, which makes it more sympathetic.

I admit smug heroes do often bug me a bit, at least the ones that never suffer consequences for it. Twilight's too fallible for that category though.

Yes. I could possibly be friends with an affable murderer... but a SMUG Murderer... grrrrr

Must be why you love Manfred von Karma so much.

I really didn't get Twilight as being all that smug; I think she was just happy that Pinkie was taking her advice, and that it was paying off.

Hold on a tick, aren't you a fan of House? Are you saying he's never smug?

[up]That's how I saw it too.

Kinda weird how Twi is giving a "Don't Jump to conclusions" aesop when in the next episode an apparent "dark secret" is going to put Twi on edge regading SA's marriage to Cadence

Given how these things tend to work, the dark secret will merely be something innocuous and Twi will have just been overeacting

[up] He's an exception. There are exceptions to ALL my rules

@story male antagonists get a free pass on being smug too

It's a season finale. I highly doubt it will end up with Twilight overreacting.

I'm guessing that the secret will be something that actually seems credible. At least in "It's About Time", the reason looked legitimate.

The jump to conclusions thing made me think of Bridle gossip and Luna Eclipsed.

Say JT?

What did you think of the episode?

I thought it was awesome. The only substantial issues are the the opening scenes are a bit long, and that the other ponies were kinda OOC when they ruined the cake.

How the hell was that trampoline gonna protect anything? [lol]

@ JT

Agreed...though it was funny right?

And what do you think of the very end? As a plot point, not a moral question.

Oh, the infamous Pinkie scene? At first I thought it was kind of dickish, but when I though about it, I remembered that 1. the cake already won, which means everybody probably sampled it already and 2. It's entirely likely that they didn't use up all of the ingredients and probably had other stuff lying around.

It's totally in-character for Pinkie, though. I mean, it's hardly the first time we've seen her eat something bigger than she is.

The trampoline was just there so that if the cake fell, it would bounce and land comically on an unsuspecting background pony. You always have to be prepared for cheap slapstick humor.

Well, I'm caught up. And I liked the episode. I don't think there's anything wrong with it, but it's still not my favorite~~

And Ginger: Sexism! D:<

But the tacos I bought are really good. Really expensive for tacos though... ><

@Ginger: There are some smug male protagonists that bug me as well, albeit usually because it's often merged with them being Jerk Sues. Sonic the Hedgehog is good example of dividing the two extremes, games Sonic is smug but in a rather playful friendly way, then there's Sonic The Comic.

Maybe that's why you dislike smug females more, a recurring template for strong female heroes is a rather bitchy heroine that's always more competent than their team mates.

[up][up][up]1. You have a dirty mind. 2. Well, that shot happened right after the cake got shoved into a buzzsaw. Context, man!

I don't mind smugness as long as the other characters react appropriately. When someone is smug and everybody else just smiles and nods, then it bugs me.

How the hell was that trampoline gonna protect anything?

As seen in Best Night Ever, MLP trampolines have an innate magical breaking field that allows them to arrest the velocity of falling objects so that they hang safely in the air above the trampoline.

I have had about a year's worth of the word smug today.

[up][up]"Come" on with that face, blood wasn't the first thing to "come" to mind.
