@Chadaman Really? You haven't read anything? You don't know what you're missing.

@Ginger: I know, right? Especially since it was basically shown from the start that her big thing was that she was smart - identifying all those leaves, and shit. I figure she committed suicide because she figured between Cato and the team the competition had been stacked towards(which actually offended me on a professional level) she had no chance.

@L: Yeah, it may have been done better in the books. But really, after half the competitors are offed in the first 5 minutes of the games with no names, and no lines, it just dulled me to the whole thing. That right there took away any reason to care I had.

Hi everyone!

The show was amazing! And camp and cheesy like nothing else. [lol]

It was The Forbidden Planet btw. An adaption of Shakespeare's Tempest.

Reposting from last page:

@Sky Strike: If you like post-apocalyptic stories and can appreciate a unique writing style, you should check out David Palmer's Emergence. It's a really good read. Might be hard to find, though.
Can you think inside the chimney?

@Sky Strike: What do you like to read? Hard to give suggestions without some kind of indication.

Hello again Applelight.

As for my views on the Hunger Games, I haven't read the books and I probably won't see the movie. I've kind of soured on the whole Young Adult "genre" in the last couple years, probably because I've pretty much outgrown it. I got lucky with Harry Potter and grew up with the series, so the shift in maturity and tone matched my own preferences, but I don't think I would enjoy the first two books in that series nearly as much if I went back and reread them.

[up] I think the second part is what happened to me minus the having already read the series (I didn't get past the first hundred pages of the first book). I felt like I SHOULD like it (I didn't really see anything wrong with the writing), but something just felt off. Like I was a target and the book totally missed the mark because it should've been fired 2-3 years prior.

@Sky Strike: It's really been a while since I read some good sci-fi. It can be very hard to find, since too many sci-fi authors think their world is interesting enough to get by without good characters or a compelling plot. I'm drawing a blank on good sci-fi I've read for some reason...

I'm reading the Dresden Files right now, which is very actiony, but it's Urban Fantasy. The writing is basically "adequate, " but as a whole the series is pretty good.

EDIT: I'm currently writing, and I'm having my character do something I figure a lot of people will think is stupid and unrealistic... except it's something I personally do all the time, lol. Still not sure it that's a valid excuse.

You're reading A Wheel Of Time? I couldn't stand it, but then again, I last tried to read it a good 10 years ago.

For sci-fi, I greatly recommend Land Games! (not really, I quit writing it after all).

I can't wait til you start Wheel of Time :D It's my fav book series ever.

Of course, ITS LONGER THEN ANYTHING YOU HAVE EVER READ, so it might be a bit of a undertaking.

@Blue

Why?

'Sky if you want a good scifi/action novel, might I suggest Alfred Bester's The Stars My Destination. it's a great example of american science fiction about a man who is abandoned by a rocket that could have rescued him and his ultimate plans for revenge. Basically thin The Count of Monte Cristo as a science fiction novel, and you have a general idea what i's like. River of Gods is another good sci-fi novel, which is set in India in 2047.
Gully Foyle is my name, and Terra is my nation. Deep space is my dwelling place, and death's my destination.

@L Mage: I honestly don't remember. I don't really like standard fantasy though, which I believe Wheel falls into. I don't really feel like giving it another try though, simply because it's too long. I don't trust series that go beyond 10 doorstopper books.

I've pretty much run out of things to read lately, unfortunately. You have no idea how hard it is to find old, out of print, books towards the end of a series that your really want to finish. The two main ones I need to finish right now are The Tales Of Alvin Maker and The Deathgate Cycle. The last novel I've read is Pathfinder by Orson Scott Card. Probably some of the best exploration of time travel mechanics that I've ever seen, mostly because it's from the standpoint of characters who have no idea how it works to begin with and have to experiment and learn the rules while trying to wrap their heads around paradoxes they create.
