Applebloom's absence is easily explained as being to young to be outside.

The Apple parents' absence can easily be explained that they were over visiting family somewhere else. Or they were sick. Or they really were they just outside of the camera view.

@Purple Dalek: Dragons can mate with everything. It's one of their powers. As the show already fills the Everfree with the monter manual, I see no reason to not have half-dragons.
