@Storyyeller: Actually, this is unlikely. We never saw Applejack's parents in the flashback. Still, Spike sometimes shows more maturity than the mane cast and that's the big issue here.

Why can't he find love among the ponies? Rarity seems to be becoming more affectionate towards him.

Rarity/Fancy Pants is a perfectly fine ship, but I don't want to break Fleur's heart.

Yet, her absence is more easily explainable due to extreme youth.

@Ginger: I've got no problem with Spike being in a relationship with a pony, the issue is that he's too young for anyone in the mane cast.
