Well, being an in law to a princess doesn't exactly make you an equal. But it certainly bumps her up quite a few pegs. Not that she really seems to care about that sort of thing.
Given his name and appearance, he appears more like the Captain of the Guards or something similar.

I think it's a second adaptation, not a remake.
