Man, I spend a day on the road and everyone's all up in Vinyl/Octavia's metaphorical face. I feel inclined to defend the fic simply because I might yet be involved in it. And so!

Scratch definitely flirts with Octavia, yes, but I at least found it endearing. Vinyl's not exactly a Jerk Sue in my eyes; she's an oddball, yes, and she gets away with yelling at Celestia - but that's because Celestia's a wise ruler and realizes that what Vinyl says is true (namely, that she never did apologize to Luna). I'm not saying it's for everyone, and there are some things about it that aren't perfect, but I don't think it did any 'damage' to the fandom's Vinyl/Octavia dynamic, as JTeeth put it. =)

I prefer Kegsiak's interpretation of Vinyl Scratch.

I'm going to leave alone the fact that I philosophically disagree with the notion that Celestia actually needed to apologize to Luna for stopping her from destroying the world, and with the assumption that she didn't do so anyway offscreen, because I can accept that those are, again, things the story is predicated on. But the other things that Scratch yelled at Celestia about first were definitely not things about which getting mad at her was justified. Like sealing the rampaging goddess away in the first place.

about a week or so back I got an idea for a story where Twilight Sparkle and the bazaaro version of herself somehow switch universes. Coincidentally both of them will have the same cutie Mark and that's why her friends don't believe the met first. But more recently I was thinking that the other members of the main cast should be some sort of inversion on their elements of harmony without making them EVIL

• Pinkie Pie: will be a Goth pony who's constantly sad.
• Applejack: very wealthy has a lot of time on our hands and prone to lying
• Rainbow Dash: she's unconfident unreliable but highly skilled the wonderbolts Beg her to join them.
• Rarity: a down on her luck schoolteacher that cares about children more than anything especially her little sister I'm still working out how to invert generosity.
• Flutter Shy: loud and obnoxious loves creepy animals somewhat of a jerk with a heart of gold. I just couldn't bear to make your complete Jerk Ass.
• The Cutie Mark Crusaders: first and so far only ponies in school to earn their marks tirelessly "help" their classmates find a special talent but are still doomed to failure.
• Zecora: she has friends on the other side.

^^^She could also be apologizing for the state of affairs that led to the emergence of Nightmare Moon - that is, not noticing that her little sister was suffering and jealous and doing something about it, or at least talking to her about it.

EDIT: Celestia actually does bring that up in the interview - trying to reason with Nightmare Moon, that is. It doesn't work. Still, though, what harm could there possibly be in apologizing? The blame lies mostly with Nightmare Moon, but 'necessary' doesn't always justify things.

I'm not going to defend shock jocks (or sexual harassment, obviously), but that's basically what Vinyl is in this fic. She's on air to get a rise out of people, including (especially?) Octavia, and it obviously works. For what it's worth, Octavia later invites Vinyl out to get drinks, and they do end up living together, so. 'Unwelcome' I'm not sure of.

Like I said, I'm not the author, nor do I feel like being made to feel like I'm defending workplace sexual harassment, which in my opinion this is not. So I'm going to give it my recommendation, for what that's worth, and stop talking. Probably won't stop talking. But whatever.

For the record, I was referring solely to the general response in this thread; I haven't read the fic in question, but it's obviously galling some people. That and I tend to dislike excessively bitchy characters in general, especially if they never get put in their place.

I fully approve of Mirror!Zecora being Doctor Facilier.

In response to that fanfic idea... A flipside to generosity is, quite simply, GREED or selfishness. Just not sure how it should be done is the problem.

How about being easily tempted by grey area stuff? Like say she would probably avoid anything outright evil, but if there's something iffy that could result in self gain, she'll consider it. Then she could get into trouble from that or something like that.
