I'm with Chadaman on this one; they all sound Caucasian, so it's hard for me to see them as anything but variations of that.

Not to mention that none of the ponies really have any human racial characteristics other than voice, so stuff like making Twilight black just seems incredibly arbitrary for me.

The way I see it, whenever I imagine the Mane 6 as humans, I think of their possible Pony-equivalent nationality based on their personality. Then I imagine what they would look like based on their country of origin.

I imagine Equestria would have a rich, rich melting pot of pony-cultures preserved or revived from pre-Classical times as a result of the Thousand Years Peace Celestia had managed to bring about. Less racism there from what I see, more specie-ism. Black and White gang up on Green, as a Discworld novel said.
