And yeah, Shining's face is hilarious! Maybe he really is hypnotized. That could provide the main conflict? What in the world is the synopsis of this episode?!

To give credence to your statement:

Maybe Cadence just looks cute and pink. In reality she is just as badass as her military husband. That's why they fell in love. Her almost raspy voice makes me think she's actually a tomboy at heart but has to follow "girly" courtly traditions as the princess.
