@PD That happens with me a lot of the time. I love villains... yet even so, Mr Blonde was just SO INSUFFERABLE

We're talking film. It started as a general sort of discussion, but settled into Tarantino films.

[up]I know.

When a character is designed with a specific purpose in mind, they either succeed spectacularly or fail miserably. Case in point I often despise 'wacky', 'comic relief' characters. So if he's designed to be unlikable it's a very real possibility someone is going to love him.

[up]Goddamnit. Am I have to going to buy two versions of that game just so I can see the real ending?(and that doesn't mean tell me the ending, by the way)

[up] When you get people who agree with the Joker or Rorshach, it may have gone a bit too far.

@Red Savant: Is that for real?

@Mr. Blondie topic: I think there is a certain amount of. . .Wish Fulfillment in socipathic characters. That is why people often like them.

[down]Mostly it was sudden twist ending that did not make sense, and tossed out everything you worked to accomplish in a rather pretentious way.

@ginger: There's a difference between 'liking' and 'agreeing with'. I enjoy watching Rorshach go about his business. I do not agree with his ideology by any stretch of the imagination.

@Ginger: Apparently it did not live up to the fandom's expectations and did not fit in with the themes of the story, so there was serious nerdraging there.

Isn't Alan Moore somewhat disturbed by Rorschach's 'following?'

Another example - The Punisher. I really like the Punisher stories I've read. Sure as hell doesn't mean I "agree" with him, but they're still good stories.

[up] I think so. The Comedian also has a fandom. That's just baffling.

@keg. Yeah, Rorshach is a brilliant character but he is not a role model.

I liked his friendship with Nite Owl 2. He seemed to genuinely value their relationship

[up][up]That makes no sense. At least Rorschach has a moral code, albeit a rather warped one. Comedian's just a sociopath.

But Then, Alan Moore seems to take anything related to any of his works as a personal affront.

@Ginger: Oh yeah, I liked that part of him. In fact, I think that was what was best about him - those brief glimmers of humanity and genuine compassion that managed to slip through the veneer of hatred and fury. Rorshach was compelling because he genuinely cared and believed in what he was doing, but he was hopelessly insane, and took it far too far. He's sort of a tragic character. His career as a hero would make for a compelling story in and of itself.

@ginger without giving away spoilers. The ending just made going through all the missions listening to people talk seem like a waste of time. It was separated from all the effort and the general message and themes that ran throughout all three games. This in a game that had some really good storytelling up until the ending.

[up][up][up][up] Not to mention the fact that he murdered a pregnant woman. But that's fine because the Comedian is "cool".

I can't stand Allan Moore personally. As a person.

@Ginger: Short version to avoid spoiling keg - it strips you of choices, doesn't change at ALL for ANYTHING about your game or your path to that end, and ends up spelling the end of galactic civilization and the deaths of everyone who participated in the final battle for Earth, as well as anyone else living in a solar system with a Mass Relay. And it might also be All Just a Dream, though apparently not(?).

Anyway, the ending was bullshit that didn't line up at all with the philosophies and themes of the rest of the trilogy and was actively offensive to anyone who expected it to make sense. I'm not exaggerating; the final conversation contains a line that would probably be about as useful as 'this statement is false' for blowing up an AI's brain.
