I got the impression that both parties needed to drink it then immediately look into each others eyes for it to take effect.
Does that mean that you could ingest love poison miles away from a girl who's drunk it, realize that it's love poison, then avoid succumbing to it's effects by avoiding direct eye contact with that girl?

@ginger I thought it was just that you fall in love with the first pony you make eye contact with.
I think you'd still be affected until an hour passed without you lookign into their eyes.

@Sky: It's pretty heavily implied that it's used to create pairs, so I doubt it would work on a single pony. Or it just works differently if only one pony ingests it.
Maybe it's proximity too. Big M and cheer both burped out half a heart, and they only became affected by the poison once their respective halves merged

Love Poison prolly has a compulsive effect that fosters obsession, although how you get that from clouds or liquid rainbow or pegasus feathers I have no ide~a~
