Even Gilda Loves Rainbow Dash.

The thing is, humans aren't
just petty and selfish, and that's all we've seen out of Gilda. To say that makes her more human than the basically decent main cast with their own flaws, that just strikes me as a faux-philosophical type of cynicism.
And what reasons are you even talking about? I don't think it was ever once explained WHY Gilda is that way.

You keep saying that, it's starting to lose all meaning.
Oh, now it's potential, is it. And here I thought this talk about "reasons" had some kind of basis.

^^For all her jerkass tendencies, she
really does seem to care about Dash. That's three-dimensionality, and that's explorable.

I don't get the same sense from her episode. I think it's probably true, just because of the show, and if/when she returns it'll be explored, but I don't think her actions really communicate that, and as such it doesn't earn her any leeway where I'm concerned just yet.
Nobody will see through my disguise... this time...
Honest question here: "more human", compared to what?
But apart, all we are is just a pile of mush and some crumbly dry mess...
(maybe even a heart of gold deep down)
With feathers of steel to go with it?
Seriously, though, the problem I have with your comparing Gilda with all other antagonists is that there are others out there with equally "human" reasons. Nightmare Moon lashed out for being undervalued. Trixie is a travelling showpony whose job basically
requires her to wow the audience, even if she did go about it the wrong way.
Or are you saying Gilda's is more relatable, because normal people's problems don't involve magic and godlike powers?

I HATE IT WHEN YOU GUYS FIGHT ;_;
But what has she ever done that would make anyone think she has certain morals or a buried heart of gold? See, the thing I'm arguing against is very precisely
Draco in Leather Pants. I don't want to see an alternate character interpretation that's based on what someone would like the character to be, and then ascribes to her the qualities she needs to already be that. I want to see how the character works with what she already has, and how she could develop. How she could
become better, not how she could be
Suetiful All Along.
Sorry if some of that's unnecessarily extreme, but I don't know how else to put it.

^^I don't think anyone's arguing that she's
not a terrible person right now. In fact, Ginger's been doing nothing but arguing about the
potential she has to
become better, not that she's got a bag full of
Freudian Excuses. The
Freudian Excuse is my contribution.

You're a rare, sensitive soul, 42. And yes, it's not much to go on, and I for one would dislike a
Karma Houdini redemption as much as I'm sure Turnways would. But she's a jerk, not a mass murderer; even if it's a slow and
painful process, she can get better.

Geez guy, it's my little freaking pony. No need to get in such a heated debate

^I'm not willing to go as far as Ginger in saying Gilda's the most 'human' in the show, but her problem is about on the same level as Trixie's (in terms of ground-in stubbornness and resistance to change; they're both suffering from too much ego, at the core), while Nightmare Moon, for instance, is the product of a corruptive outside force feeding on Luna's feelings of underappreciatedness and jealousy. The other two are, for want of a better word, unaugmented.

Ah. I see. Earthling humor.
