Eh, I don't know. The elder scrolls series managed to work saving and alternate endings into the mythology and timeline. I don't see any reason it couldn't be done.

I don't mean whether it "could" be done, but whether it should be done. Why do we need sequels to reveal that they're based on some random gameplay session where the player messed up and got the character killed once again? And why in Ocarina of Time of all games? I don't recall that one having any real "bad end" scenes for its Game Overs. Why not follow up on that "Return of Ganon" thing from Zelda 2, where you hear that funny laugh?

The Elements cleansed her of a thousand years of resentment and madness-fuelled hatred, but she managed to get back up to speed within a year anyways.

@Bagof Think of it like this. The Legend of Zelda games don't determine Link's fate. These events already happened and you're playing a game based on his adventures. It follows the plot exactly, but there's no guarantee that Link did all the things you did while playing, even if he could have.

As for "Why Ocarina of Time?" That's mainly because that's where the original timeline split idea was.

If you can encourage them to make a game taking place after the bad ending of Zelda II, though, go for it!

There was a cute wmg that Ganondorf is actually a babysitter for Link and Zelda, and he retells the tale differently each time to keep it interesting.
