Them crushing the egg isn't anything more heinous than some of the things normal human teens do for fun. It just seems pretty sad since the Phoenixes are really beautiful and awesome.

One thing you need to keep in mind about dragons in this show is that they are solitary creatures (at least, from what we've see from the red and green dragon). So, for them, social standards haven't really been set.

Even if they didn't, these dragons grew up among only dragons. They might assume everything is more resilient than it is.

Red was having a nap. Not the sort of thing you want company for. Green was in the Everfree. Who knows what his deal is?

@Ginger: The phoenixes seem about as intelligent as the other animals in the show to me. I do think smashing their eggs for no reason is awful, just saying I think there are plenty of people who would think it acceptable, or at least only worth a mild scolding.

Phoenixes have to be capable of dieing somehow, otherwise they wouldn't be so rare. That was quite a large group of chicks, so either the chicks are vulnerable or they only mate once every several centuries or so. I'm leaning toward the former.

I assumed they couldn't revive unless they died by natural causes. But there's no evidence for that either, so ignore me.

EDIT: I just accidentally pasted one of Ginger's responses into the file I was working on. It looked rather out of place
