After this episode, I find it rather doubtful that a dragon would be named "Basil" or "Cinnamon".
you will go to the paper towns and you will never come back
Them crushing the egg isn't anything more heinous than some of the things normal human teens do for fun. It just seems pretty sad since the Phoenixes are really beautiful and awesome.

That's why I stalwartly believe that those eggs were indestructable and were in no danger of being permanently damaged.
I also believe the dragons knew this

One thing you need to keep in mind about dragons in this show is that they are solitary creatures (at least, from what we've see from the red and green dragon). So, for them, social standards haven't really been set.

I imagine, a dragon matriarch.
I just think the fact that they went after phoenix eggs in particular was significant.
I know, hopeful thinking... I'll go stand in the corner

@Ginger: The phoenixes seem about as intelligent as the other animals in the show to me. I do think smashing their eggs for no reason is awful, just saying I think there are plenty of people who would think it acceptable, or at least only worth a mild scolding.
and I still don't see why my indestructable egg theory is such a bad one

Wouldn't them smashing the egg match the trope "what measure is a non-human" or in this case non-dragon?

They're phoenix eggs. Why shouldn't they have the same protection that phoenixes have?
