If they smashed them, wouldn't they just reform?

I never thought of that, but that is a good justification for their behavior. If that were true, smashing phoenix eggs would just be a cool, but dangerous pastime, sort of like playing with mercury I guess.

Maybe phoenixes need to have attained a certain age for that to happen. Why else would they need to mate?

That reminds me. When I bought Pokemon Blue used, the previous owner did the whole trap yourself on Cinnabar with only a Magikarp trick. Except the idiot left 99 rare candies in the inventory. Hello, surfing Gyrados!

Nah, my headanon is that those eggs were indestructible. The Dragon Teens don't strike me as evil

I mean they can be smashed. But the egg will just reform. They get to have fun smashing something in a thousand different ways, safe in the knowledge that they aren't really doing any permanent harm

Yeah, wishful thinking... but I can dream, right?

Hey, just because the egg was unkillable doesn't mean that the ponies or Spike knew that. Besides, killing something just because you know it'll come back to life still isn't exactly kosher behaviour

Spike says that he's a pony at the end of the episode and, if this took place after that time, would probably not object to that term

Maybe put them in a situation where a fire can't start

Maybe phoenixes live Highlander style. Not necessarily that you have to cut their heads off, but a certain condition must be met for them to die.

Was that Outfit Rare made Flame retardant? It seemed to withstand being engulfed in dragon fire pretty well (only the eyelashes burned)

Rare should get to designing outfits for the equestrian military if that's the case

Also, the way those dragons and Spike withstood that fire blast proves that Spike had no reason to fear that Green Dragon's fire breath in Owl's Well

Sigh, am I so wrong for trying to make the teens out to be at least somewhat understandable? XD

@ginger My headcanon is that she used asbestos. It's in this season, after all.

Also, the lead dragon (I'm calling him Rodney) got scorched by the phoenix. Can dragons get burned by nondragon fire?

no, I really don't think they were that bad, once Spike did something they thought was cool enough they had no problem accepting him, yeah the egg smashing is a bit rough, but they really didn't seem any worse then some common Frat boys.

Build a fool proof system, and the world will create a better fool.
