After looking at the pictures I have one thing to say.

Why not? They could easily show up later. all we have is a 1 minute preview to go on.

That's also true, although I'm not sure what purpose the camo would serve, unless they're trying to spy on Fluttershy and Rainbow Dash during a storm.

Also, WTF is up with Spike and that squirrel. Is RD trying to train it or something?

That's just the impression I got from looking at the clip and screenshots, I could be wrong.

I think it shows how much Twilight cares about Spike that she's more than willing to rummage through the entire library in the middle of the night just to put Spike's concerns to rest. She didn't even wait until the next morning to do it.

One little quibble, though. Spike was raised from birth hatching. How does he know about this "dragon migration"?

*shrug* I assumed that after some training or something, they are watching to see what Fluttershy can do now.

The camo is just for laughs.

I'm assuming that he learned about it before that point. Thus his angsting.

Most likely, it occurred earlier in the episode. Possibly even the cold open if the preview clip comes soon after the intro.

About the dragon migration and camo: Spike finds out about the migration because everypony has been talking about it. The Mane 6, excluding Fluttershy, go dragon watching/dragon spotting/dragoning and put on camo to hide their naturally bright colors, though the camo may actually be unnecessary.

It explains the binoculars...

The only problem with that is, the ponies would have had to know about the migration before hand in order to come that prepared. And yet, Ponykind still knows next to nothing about Dragons?
