So we need to explain why Madoka is fun while avoiding discussion of the series themes or meanings?
(Also I find it a bit weird to see a brony complaining about people stating a case for a show...)
I'm a bit confused by this, most shows have some kind of meaning, which generally take a backseat to entertaining the audience. Too much meaning will turn a viewer off that's true, but whats wrong with a lot of meaning, if the show itself is fun? I mean MLP:
Fi M's overall meaning and theme is friendship, which pretty much surrounds most of the shows storylines, though it's a kids show - so people don't hammer the meaning too hard (because the Friendship Reports at the end generally cover the whole "Explain what we learned" aspect)
If you distil Madoka down, it's an anime that takes the usual sugary-sweet content of the average Magical Girl show and makes it something darker. It's basically a huge parody, with some really smart ideas. It only has 13 episodes to convey it's story, so the focus is on the ongoing storyline, with character development where it's needed. Yes this means maybe the Characters do not become as much beloved by people, but it's maybe better that way in this case.
I suppose that sort of thing isn't for everyone, it's very much a philsophical kind of anime - in the sense that it looks at the possible catch 22's of a reality that doesn't even exist and what someone might do in that kind of situation. If you want anime with more Character and less meaning, maybe Nanoha would be more your sort of thing?
