Shame you're restricting yourself, or else I'd suggest Asura's Wrath. That's a simple and unique game, and hella entertaining if you're into shonen-anime-style narratives.

Iji basically requires very little to run, Phaser if that's a concern.

I've got no N64 suggestions, having never owned one. Terranigma or Illusion of Gaia would also be acceptable.
