The flying fish is Soulblazer?
I analyze "Geek Culture" here.

Wait, I've got an even better idea. Play Pickory! (Totally not a shameless self plug).
If there is anything that you are alone in thinking, it's "thinking that you're alone in thinking of your theories".

It's an Action RPG (mostly Action) for the SNES, about a boy named Will with psychic powers who has a chance meeting with Gaia and is chosen for a destiny far beyond his ordinary life.

To explain further would be spoiling things. It's the second in the Soul Blazer 'trilogy', "followed" by Terranigma.

oh, of course it had to be part of something big or the 2nd part of a trilogy or something. Nothing can ever be simple and standaloneish can it?

I played the game when I was six without ever knowing it was part of any sort of trilogy. I never assumed it was and it did not impede my understanding or enjoyment of the game in any way. It plays absolutely fine as a standalone game, and may well have been intended as such because it certainly isn't DIRECTLY connected to the previous or succeeding game.

As I said "Trilogy", quotes important. They're connected by themes and sometimes seem like they might be connected chronologically, but it never extends any further than that. The only thing that you would possibly need to know is that the first game's character is named "Blazer", and that's only for a passing reference by a Bonus Boss who has no bearing on the game's story.

In short, don't worry.

If you're still looking for L Ps Light. I'd like to suggest one of the KingsQuest King's Quest VI: Heir Today, Gone Tomorrow. It should run on most computers.

@ Enlong: Thanks. I kind of took it for granted that people might know what I'm talking about when I mentioned Soulblazer.

@Ginger: It's not really a proper trilogy. Like Enlong said, the games mainly share the same sorts of themes and gameplay. The villains aren't really that impressive in the Soulblazer. Illusion of Gaia is a little better. But the villains as they are are more isolated to their specific story arcs. Terranigma's plot probably has the most depth to it and does have some pretty good villains.

Okay, I'm probably going to do Banjo-Kazooie. Maybe Paper Mario at some later date.

Randomly generated posts are quite interesting.

Still wondering what mine would look like.

[up] Banjo-Kazooie is awesome. Such nostalgia.

Well, it being a SNES-era action-RPG, the villains aren't too fleshed out. There are some, like the Vampires that have dialogue during their boss fights. A lot of people seem to remember that particular boss, for one reason or another.

A fair number of the boss fights are beasts or demons that get in your way, rather than villainous characters with their own stories, and any villains that are fleshed out and have stronger story connections tend to exit the story without fights. I suppose I wouldn't call them straight "villains". "Antagonists" is closer. In a way, that makes them more interesting than Mateus clone #612

Now, this is all off of my own recollections, and I haven't played the game in some time, but I do remember being enthralled by the story at a lot of times.

If you like the game, and want something with the same themes and stronger story elements, Terranigma might be a good game to go into after it. Or before it. As I said, it doesn't matter overmuch.

Hm.. Sort of, Mousa. Insofar as the three games were developed by the same group and share some story elements. Of course it was the early-mid-nineties so the storytelling isn't quite as grand as the Tales games. The key differences in the stories are Soulblazer is a straight action-adventure story, Illusion of Gaia is coming of age crossed with a cosmic horror story, and Terranigma is largely about redemption.

I never played a King's Quest game, but I liked hearing Retsupurae make fun of 6 for being the game that's supposed to be the best of the series!

[up][up][up] I'm not on there. :(

[up] No. People who want the ponies' cider to be "Hard cider" say that there's some sort of hyperaccelerated fermenting process or time travel going on, rather than it being, you know, normal, unfiltered, unfermented, apple cider.
