I was expecting tonight's MLP episode to be the high point of a sucky day of recovery*

From a drunken, Sucky First Time, no less

and hangover, and, well, it didn't work. Usually MLP puts a huge, Pinky-Watching-A-Sonic-Rainboom smile on my face, but today it just utterly failed in causing me anything but a mix of mild amusement and mild annoyance. I also felt that Tara Strong's voicing was rather subpar and forced this episode.

It doesn't help that I couldn't buy the goddamn episodes from the i Tunes store and that, right before the episode started airing at Bronystate, my father skypes me for an hour-long conversation on the evils of capitalism.

Today sucked for me, and I really hoped MLP would be a sweet spot, but it barely registered.

You're right though, it didn't suck by average cartoon standards, but it was average. Top-notch average, but average.

Yeah, for a genius series such as this, average is, like, intolerable. Lesson Zero and all that jazz about star students.

Well I doubt evil monsters will show up in the final. Perhaps, this is foreshadowing for the Season 3 opener.

@Handle: Ah. Bad day compounded by disappointment. I... suppose that's fair enough, then.

I had the opposite case. I probably wouldn't have been half as pleased with this if it hadn't been for last night - I went to a event at my school to celebrate two groups finishing their big projects (to make a full, albeit short, game), then went to an after-party, got nice and drunk with friends, and woke up with no trace of hangover. Plus it was the first night I'd taken off in ages, so I was completely recharged.

So yeah, I guess I kind see where you're coming from. There were, admittedly, a few elements that bothered me a bit(Twilight being over-neurotic in her cold-open, seemed unnecessary), but on the whole I still thought it was a good episode. I enjoyed it a lot. I think some episodes may just hit different people differently, I don't know. But I thought it hit better than just average, at least. Like, I'd at least call it a good episode by kid's shows standards. Not fantastic, but still good.

Then again, I tend to consider "average" kid's shows terrible, so there's that.

And it says something for MLP that the writing is better than that of Glee. But then again, it doesn't rely on continuity that much.

I'd say Slightly above average, but not exceptional as compared to other kids shows, but slightly sub par for FIP

Yeah this episode was nice...if all my top ten scored at least 8, I'd give this a 6.

I think a big issue was perhaps that the plot was very predictable in some parts

Huh. I must be being really gracious with this episode, then.
