I agree, being entertaining is better then not being predictable.

Hell just look at Star Trek: Generations, a large number of shear WTF failures in that movie, including the original Bridge Dropping, were done due to the producers trying not to do what was expected.

Yes surprises can be nice, and the show does quite often bring up stuff no one really expected, but over all it is consistently entertaining, and even stuff you see coming a mile away are often done in slightly new or different, yet always entertaining ways.
