He felt that Rarity being ripped into was really quite harsh. Basically, he felt the opposite of what ginger felt when Pinkie got ripped into.

I just figured out why all the ponies in Ponyville were such jerks this episode. Every mare in town was on her period! Talk about synchronization!

It really wasn't everypony being jerks, It just seemed that way because the jerks were the only ones talking. IMO the only jerks were:

Angel
The pony with the glasses who cut in line first
The Valley Girl Ponies
The Cherry Stand Pony
The pony who cut in line at Sugarcube Corner

Bon Bon and the other pony weren't being unreasonably awful, just a little rude. The poor pony who got in the taxi came running from off screen, so he probably didn't even know Fluttershy called it. It's really relatively few ponies who acted that way. In fact, more ponies (and small animals) ended up as collateral damage from Fluttershy's aggressive assertiveness than actively antagonized her.
