[up][up][up][up]I don't think we necessarily disagree now that I think of it. Were just focused and concerned about different sides of the conflict.

In the best case scenario we would both rather that neither side look incompetent, but you would rather not make the villain look incompetent, while I would rather not make the hero look incompetent.

I actually completely agree with Ginger's preference in villains, I just find it strange how much of a deal breaker it is for him.

I'm looking forward to your review btw JT.

You should call attention to the attempts by Pinkie and Rarity to demonstrate assertiveness to FS which didn't really suit her. Be assertive with truth to your character as it were.

Re: The Color You Bleed

Tidus felt like a Deus ex Machina.

I'm also a bit surprised that we don't seem to have a page for this yet.

@Crow It isn't really. It's just I'd like to find at least ONE thing that fits my insane standards

Out of the two, I prefer the villain to be competant or at least Not So Harmless. While I can kind of stand a villain losing to luck if it's done in a witty fashion (eg. some of Inspector Gadget's antics) I often have a hard time seeing a Harmless Villain get trounsed and still root for the hero.

Not So Harmless is generally my favorite, a bumbling clownish villain that makes some screw ups and may even be taken lightly by the heroes, but eventually makes the odd formidable move that makes them shit their pants. Dr Eggman is one of my favorite examples, just watch the intro to Sonic Unleashed.

You probably wouldn't be able to unless you made your own movie or TV Show ^^

Sometimes I feel like that. If you want something done right, you gotta do it youself! grin

@ginger Now I'm curious, have there been any works that have met your standards?

@Applelight: I mentioned that, although it's less "different ways of being assertive" and more "they aren't really being assertive." Hopefully I'll get that done soon. tongue

The thing is, even the villains I make can't live up to my standards. [lol]

One story I came up with, I was so much more interested with the villain I'd created than the heroes that I made him a Villain Protagonist. (something I could never accept anywhere else)

[up][up] yeah... Making stories and characters is hard. Which is why even though I have some ideas for fanfiction, I never/rarely actually write it. I'm sure I would fail! grin

It's not so much rush as "I have other stuff I need to work on so I want to get it done." tongue I swear I've written more this year than I ever had to in college.

I don't mind fallible villains too much as long as a Villain Ball doesn't result. If they're too perfect they aren't as interesting.

[up][up][up] It's not so much that. It's that, I can accept these kinds of characters, but only because I made them [lol]

I tend to not be big on Villain Protagonist setups, generally because, while you'll likely adore the villain, to make it work you usually have to make the heroes completely one dimentional and unsympathetic. You can have a Hero Protagonist and still have a developed sympathetic villain, it's rare to have vise versa however. I consider The Dreamstone pretty much the anti-Friendship is Magic because of this.

[up][up]If there's one thing I learned from college it's how to churn out enormous amounts of writing. One semester I had to write over a hundred pages worth of material. But don't worry about it too much. As long as you keep your priorities straight you'll do fine. And you're not a dumbass. For most of college I basically looked like my avatar pretty much all the time.
