I suppose there's more than one measure of maturity in Equestria, mental, biological, and uhhh, "spiritual" or "creative" maturity, for want of a better term for the third maturity which corresponds to the Cutie Mark.

@ Ginger: The eyes are the windows to the soul, and the blackness is symbolic of her decent into madness during that episode. Or some other artistic bullshit like that. They just make her more creepy.

I think it's more because we're getting so close to the end there isn't much left to unspoil. I mean with all we know now there's almost not much left but to go and get snapshots of season 3.
