Because strict-canon Trixie and Gilda are jerks without a redeeming moment?
But apart, all we are is just a pile of mush and some crumbly dry mess...
(Psst. I think that was a joke.)

@Ben10fan: I've seen quite a few arguments that Trixie and Gilda were never given the smackdown necessary to grow out of being playground bullies themselves, and it makes a lot of sense.

still, it is now their own faults that they're jerks at this point. Diamond Tiara and Silver Spoon have and excuse because they're just fillies.
Eh, I dunno... it still is pretty much their fault if they just never grew the fuck up, since they shouldn't need to be "taken down a peg".

Actually, I should mention that I think Trixie was at least passable. She was more of an ignorable annoyance than anything else. (Gilda not so much)

Rainbow Dash wouldn't have grown out of being an arrogant asshole like Gilda if it wasn't for her friends. It's all about the company you keep. Gilda clearly cared about RD

Okay?
I guess the thing is I don't understand in what capacity any of that clears Gilda. The fact is, she's apparently never had any real redeeming qualities ("caring about Dash" doesn't count, especially given that she abandoned her in the end anyway). If it's because she chose to hang with the wrong crowd, well, that's still her discretion at work there.

I really can't bring myself to really "like" Gilda. She was intended to be an unlikable character, with virtually no redeeming qualities. A subversion of the annoying "Bad-guy-learns-their-lesson-and-gets-along-with-the-good-guys" trope (whatever the name for that is). I have no problem with people making
Alternate Character Interpretations of her (in fact, they can be very interesting at times), but I draw the line at trying to say that it's canon
Also, I loathe her
Totally Radical speech

@Turnways Flip: Have you seen my WMG that gryphons are pretty rare in Equestria, and thus Gilda had basically no friends until she met Dash (due to
Zecora syndrome)? It goes a long way toward explaining her possessiveness, though not, I must admit, her willingness to leave Dash. Of course, the pride to never back down even when you know you're in the wrong, and the sense of betrayal when one's only friend sides with The Masses who have historically been dismissive of you, even when the individuals themselves have done nothing to you and you have in fact been cruel to them... those are powerful forces.
That really is a great quote.

I still agree with Tunways, Gilda and Trixie are young adults and thus it's their own fault they're jerks. DT and Silver Spoon get a pass because they are children.

That's 1. a WMG and therefore almost definitionally not founded in canon, and 2. not perfectly logical because it assumes that being a rare type of creature would make her an outcast. Assuming any of the qualities of a griffin are seen as positive, that uniqueness should have made her popular instead of the opposite.
