@Ginger: Every single episode is just the same thing happening over an over. The characters are dull and one dimensional. The plots are half-baked. It has no goal or overarching story, which would be fine if the episodes were interesting in and of themselves, but they aren't. There is a huge reliance on laziness disguised as running gags (hence why there is a Nurse Joy and Officer Jenny in every single dwelling place on earth).

It's been years and years since I've seen it though, so it could have gotten better since, idk. I was always more of a Digimon guy, personally (of course it also had a lot of flaws).

The games are pretty good. Not my favorites, but they're fun. The anime was pretty good for the first season or two and then went downhill. And even that might just be the Nostalgia Filter talking.

Meh, decided to not do another combo. Maybe next time!

Kidding, of course. I always preferred Digimon as well. Even if I never managed to see a full season sequentially. Which, come time for Tamers, was probably for the best.

In the first two or so seasons things where fine, after that Seasonal Rot kicked it but because it had become such a cash cow franchise the whole thing just got more and more formalistic. Then Beast Wars arc happened, Team Rocket became a real threat again, and things became AMAZING.

I never liked any Digimon series after Tamers.

@Mage: See, everyone says that, but season 4 was always my favourite.

I never tended to like any mon series that much, because I have a very internalized definition of strength. That is, it's all well and good to call the kids of digimon strong, which they were, but they still never did any fighting. I was so attached to the kids and I hated seeing them useless next to the super-powered monsters. As a kid I didn't really make the connection that it was the kids inner strength that fueled the mons outer strength - I sort of missed the metaphor on that one. Then comes season 4, where the kids are actually doing something on their own, and I loved it. Of course it has serious pacing issues, but I forgave those as a kid.

In essence my issue was that if they were going to save the world, they should save the world, not get their pet monster to do it for them.

See for me the whole point of Digimon was the attachment between the kids and their mons, how their bond of friendship made each other stronger and powerful enough to overcome any evil they might face. That's why the finale of Tamers is so perfect, it's the logical conclusion of that bond.

In 4 they completely eliminated that in favor of the kids being superheros under the premise of changing into Digimon. It annoyed the crap out of me.

Um, there is a new show out right now, called Xroz Wars or something. From the one episode I watched, it looked pretty quality for a Digimon show. You might want to check it out.
