@"Ponifying" Rule 34 version I actually remember an example that breaks that which ginger didn't like: Naomi from Death Note.

So Bad, It's Good doesn't exactly hold up in this class. [lol]

I don't need to, I just feel like I'm being an asshole to it PURELY because it was made by Hollywood.

BTW If that's true I want to see ponificated: Frespace, Wing Commander, Homeworld, Oban, Space Above And Beyond, Space Rangers, Disciples, Saints Row, Red Faction, Messiah, Gothic, Stargate, Farscape.

(Probably nobrony in this tread know every title I mentioned)

@ginger I think you were commenting earlier that there was no ponified form for Naomi from Death Note, when we were on that topic.

[down] I seem to love misattributing quotes.tongue

The thing is. What if you want to tell the whole story from one of those Daring Do books? Making it an arcade game easily takes away a lot of the story. If you're only playing inside the dungeons you won't be setting up the characters, the plot or anything really. It'll just be a silly toy.

But if the goal is to tell the entire story from one of the (non-existant) books and stay faithful to it the whole game concept gets a little harder to make.
What's the worst that could happen anyways?

What, the Daring Do books are supposed to be full of plots? [lol] I kid, but I won't deny that you can probably just put up cut scenes at certain points and have it be 90% gameplay and you would still get the whole story.

Video Game adaptations never tell the whole story. It's impossible. Even adapting things to a movie require you to leave out things and change other things.

Anyways, is there a possibility that anyone would make a fangame with these ideas?

Well I've made a couple games before, but the problem is that I have trouble finding the time or motivation to do it any more.

[up][up]I hate using cutscenes to get the story moving. The story should be told through gameplay. Cutscenes are the lazy way out and do not allow the player to get into it in the same way. They only really work when they don't interrupt the gameplay like in Max Payne with the graphic novel bits. They were short and triggered by your actions. Also Half-Life did it beautifully by allowing the player to walk around as they wish while the characters were talking.

[up]You CAN tell the whole story. It's the reason I'm thinking of point and click adventure though other genres would work too. The only thing you can't do is tell the story exactly the same as it is in the book. You have to change some things around but you don't have to leave anything from the story out.

Adventure Games are pretty much the western equivelant of a Visual Novel.

Well, I've had some experience using Multimedia Fusion 2. But that's not real experience, seeing as it's click 'n' create (at least, that's what the dev team behind it calls it). I could probably make a decent platformer using little effort, and something awesome if I had the time and ability to stay on one given project [lol]

Quick-time Events can draw the player into the cutscenes, and there are some arcade games that "seamlessly" blend the gameplay and cutscenes together. Of course, it becomes a challenge of doing the sequences well enough to make it work.

I wouldn't mind playing a Daring Do CYOA done up like that Rockman Super Adventure on the PS One, that one which had gameplay, cutscenes, and interactive QTE sequences blended together.

Also, if we borrow/steal elements from gamebooks, we could make her adventures into CYOA bookfics :D

Quick Time Events are the best type of Cutscene. Press X to kick a football into the face of a guy threatening a child!

I like cutscenes as well though and in some genres they're pretty necessary. It's tricky to tell the story in say an RTS without them.

@Badwolf

Well, a google image search of both Shenmue and Ryu Hazuki ponified ultimately result in nothing.

Someone needs to fix that...

Actually most of the story on StarCraft was told during the missions. In between the missions all you got was some banter between the characters and the briefing. Remember the moment when the guy you were working for just left Kerrigan behind? That was a great moment storywise.
