I think she could be close to someone, even knowing she would outlive them. I personally feel that any immortal/long-lived/whatever individual who's not able to move past the fact that yes, people die isn't in the best emotional state anyway. You're essentially abandoning the world because you don't want to be reminded that death is a constant. Yes, I can see why some immortals might try to sequester themselves from it, but to limit your relations because you want to avoid grief seems awfully selfish to me.

Gully Foyle is my name,
and Terra is my nation.
Deep space is my dwelling place,
and death's my destination.
@Mio, two pages back (regarding my comments on the game industry): Well, yes. I was just using it as an example because it's what I know. But the same principle drives animation as well, is my point. They need to do what the fan want.
My best loved example of immortality is the fellow who made the bet with Death in
The Sandman
Gully Foyle is my name,
and Terra is my nation.
Deep space is my dwelling place,
and death's my destination.
But wouldn't that take it's toll on someone? Could you imagine the feeling that you're going to outlive everyone you know and love for the next 1000+ years?
The hardest part is pretending to still care

Yes, it can take a toll, but eventually I think any emotionally healthy person would come to terms with that fact and actually use that knowledge to form the closest, happiest relationships you could because otherwise, as I said, it's selfish to try to sequester yourself from the pain of loss. You owe it to those who will go before you to make their relationships meaningful, in other words.
Am I making sense here, or am I just nuts?

I''m sorry too, had I known it was a sore spot, I wouldn't have continued arguing my point.

Was focusing more on the concept of friendship and death buuuuut ok.
