Maybe she was just too anti-social? She strikes me as an Insufferable Genius and probably didn't do to well in team exercises (at least ones in which she wasn't the leader)

I don't really check out fanart much so I'm not really going to do the pagetopper thing but I thought I'd share this

since it amused me.

I assume RD was a dropout rather than a failure. Talented enough not to fail the classes, but rarely actually showed up.

Dashie was a Wonderbolts fangirl from her schoolfilly days and in fact joined Flight School to train up to join them. She found the harsh athlete/aerobatics regime coupled with draconian discipline too much and went back up took up that job offer for a weatherpony. (Given that picture of her as a student from May the Best Pet Win, she was clearly a pretty good student, just that she hasn't been reading much since she enrolled in Flight School.)

@ Ginger: Yeah that makes sense, I imagine that's one of the reasons she was targeted for bullying.

Another factor could be that Fluttershy left flight school (obviously she wants to be on the ground) and, with Gilda wherever Griffons live, Rainbow wanted to stay close to her only friend.

Fluttershy didn't really want to go to Flight School, but she ended up being sent because "she needed to develop some character." (You hear this all the time about the poor sods who get conscripted for NS around here all the time.)

You could have dropped out "for reasons of stress or health" then gone back in a few years later. Since you have a second chance now, you should exploit it.

I find it interesting that I'm the only one who thinks that Rainbow Dash could have flunked out of flight school, or otherwise be kicked out.

Yes, we know that she is very talented, but that doesn't grantee success in an academic setting (or indeed any setting).

Dash has a lot of talent and she works hard, but only on things she's interested in, and she's not that good at applying herself to things she personally doesn't want to do. If she managed to engage with the curriculum (and that's 50/50; either she was excited to learn new things or bored because she "could have figured that out on her own"), then she probably graduated.

My personal headcanon is that she graduated with a middling-high C, because theory classes bored her and she wasn't good at written tests.
