[Again my issue isn't the length in minutes:seconds, but the length to content ratio.

no it says "usually on a soundtrack CD"

@Seraph They say repitition is good. I like choruses, and every verse of their song had a point, it was mainly exposition (I'd rather sung exposition than spoken exposition)
but I guess I can see what you mean
"Contests fought between two masters are decided instantly. An invisible battle is now raging between the two of them." Lulu vs Schneizel
Pinkie was extra cute this episode and cranky searching for her loved one was very heartwarming.

Didn't help that it was all repeated in the same tone, while Smile Smile Smile did start just repeating the same lines towards the end, it kept building the tone and energy, getting bigger and bigger so you knew it was building to a climax.

@Fallen I was distinctly meh about it. Which should be a good thing, but has in fact left me feeling even sadder

They repeated the chorus 3 times in the Flim Flam song. The final one sounded MUCH more energetic and loud.

The episode was great, and the dialog was a massive improvement over the last two episodes. I don't feel like their was to much exposition, except near the end.

Why did that sunbathing pony set up in the shade of a tree if she didn't want to be in the shade?
Tealove is best pony.

@ Pannic, that was describing how the idea started, it even says later that the songs could make it back into the series, this just skipped a step..or not if you count the leak besides the VERY FIRST LINE
A song specific in content and tone to a character from an anime, sung by the character's voice performer
just change out the word anime and it fits this perfectly.

The only worthwile things in this ep for me were Cranky and the song.
Was it just me, or when Cranky kicked Pinkie out, was there a more ominous version of the song Pinkie sung about Cranky's name (can't remember what the tune is called) playing in the background score?

But was there?

I actually noticed Yankee Doodle showed up a lot in the background music. It was a nice touch.

That's what I'm getting at. I just noticed it especially in that one scene
