@CDRW: Yeah the show has been on since the sixties or whenever, but you really only need to start with the 2005 revival. And honestly, if that's still a bit too much, you could probably jump in at the start of Eleven's tenure as the Doctor.

On the topic of Scootaloo flying, we have seen her hover just inches off the ground and fly around while dragging her hooves. Perhaps she simply has a problem gaining altitude? She can do forward propulsion just fine, but has issues fighting gravity. (Or maybe she has a fear of heights >.>)

I think Scoots just has a body mass to wingspan ratio issue. Her wings just arent big enough to provide the lift needed for her body.

Makes me wonder how much of Pegasus flight is its own form of magic? They most likely dont have hollow bones and their wings are awful small to allow them to fly.

I don't think Scootaloo has any issues with heights. She seemed pretty excited about ziplining after all. The underdeveloped wing theory seems most likely.
