Id be a Pegasus if I got to choose and didn't just get assigned based on my current traits. I always dream about flying and I'm sure with a pair of wings on my back I'd learn quick to be more athletic!
For now Ginger, when the only pony you can really compare him to is a fresh out fo stable Lil'pip with about a week's experience. And yes Calamity is awesome, i'm talking about the fics portrayal of pegasi as a whole. He does stay the teams main sharpshooter though.

where did it say Pegasi were the elite soldiers? they were the entire Air Force true, but that's for a good reason. Equestria's really Elite were the Steel Rangers, they were pretty much all Earth ponies.

not even close, the instant it's revealed and numerous times throughout the story it's made clear the Pegasi battle armor is inferior to Steel rangers armor because it relies to much on Rule Of Cool and intimidation versus actual ability. And it never really got put into mass use until just before the end of the war.
Ok yes they were the most utilized soldiers at the start, once Applejack created the Steel Ranger armor that changed.

The impression I got from Hearth's Warming Eve was that the unicorns were the aristocacy, the pegasusususus were the warriors and the earth ponies were the peasants.
