Windows ME? Oh man, I would not wish that on anyone. ME was only good for inspiring the OS-tan girls.

Now we need to ponify the OS girls.

There really hasn't been a point in upgrading windows to anything past XP. It's stable, runs just about everything, and it's cheap.

Now, I use a Mac, and I wouldn't trade it for the world, but there's really no reason to shell out the money for a Mac if your primary need for a computer is web browsing and word processing.

I remember trying ME once. I installed it, booted it up. Blue screen within 10 mins. I realize patches made it a bit more stable later, but uh, yea, wasn't about to stick around to try to get it patched up when that was my first impression.

Technically, upgrading to a newer version of Windows does have certain benefits, like better drivers for certain hardware, more access to newer software, and the ability to use more than 4 gigs of RAM, because XP 64-bit had terrible driver support. Also, fewer security flaws and less crashes.

Mind you XP does have a simple Zen charm to it these days.

I was afraid to try to upgrade my old computer from Windows ME to a more recent OS, for fear that it would hopelessly screw up an already dying computer. Also, my town was one of the very last to get high-speed internet. Seriously, I think Dogpatch got it before my area did.

Anyway, I'm currently watching the Pinkiefied Zoot Zoot song on YouTube. It's hilarious.

Skip Vista unles you're getting a fully-patched version with the Service Pack, and even then you might as well have Seven (Funny thing: Vista is Windows 6.0, and Seven is actually 6.1! Marketing, lol.)

Though upgrading to Vista is practically a downgrade. Windows 7 is pretty nice though, it's just pricy as hell. Luckily, most computers come with it nowadays, so that really isn't an issue.

yeah this rig is about 6 years old, runs XP just fine and never has any issues.

at least after all the reformats back to factory taught me that the only time Internet Explorer should even be acknowledged as being on your computer is using it to download a real browser after a reboot. And that No Script is your friend

We segued into talk about Syd's new computer and then Windows, lol. XP runs amazingly fast on an Atom processor, much better than Seven Starter, so I "downgraded" my netbook after I had it for a night.

A penguin avatar reminds me of Linux, lol.

In upcoming news, The Apple Clan of Equestria has filed several lawsuits concerning trademarks with Apple Inc, concerning the Zap-apple being used as Apple's logo and the name branding.

Firefox with Adblock Plus works wonders for me at home. Also Opera is superior to Chrome because it doesn't datamine you in Google's name.
