I probably will continue reading it. Amongst all the emotions I'm feeling, no part of me thought that the fic was BAD.

It just made me feel very, very faint

And that is not true.

Why? If it's Grim Dark I'm gonna assume it's awful by default. Also, why is it popular? There are plenty of other Grim Dark fics. And why make it Grim Dark in the first place, Fallout wasn't Grim Dark at all (I'm only familiar with Fallout 3).

I don't dislike Fallout Equestria because it is Grimdark, I dislike it because it reads like a I sub-parly written Fallout fanboy's wet dream crossover with MLP. Never liked Fallout much either, myself so that could be coloring my opinion.

[up][up]Because regardless of how you feel about the subject or the darkness thereof, it is a very well-written piece of literature.

[up][up][up]Grimdark has a rather loose definition in this fandom. As for FO:E a lot of people thought it was well written. I have never read it though and have no interest.

Fallout wasn't Grim Dark at all (I'm only familiar with Fallout 3).
I've always been confused at this too. Is it called grimdark just because it's much darker in relation to the actual show?

Well, L Mage, if you never liked Fallout, why would you even give Fo E a try in the first place? :

Wait, how many years after the show does this take place? Chapter 2 revealed that Sweetie was the first overmare, but she's dead now, right?

I've read bits and pieces of it, but it's inflated reputation was the reason I gave it a shake. I didn't like it.

[up][up]About 250 if I remember right.

[up] Hype Aversion, Hype Backlash and reading small chunks are not enough justification to name something "bad." The strength of FOE is not in its prose, it's in its overarching construction.

I was just wondering what it is that's supposed to be good about it. Nobody says anything other than "it's good." Oh well, it really doesn't matter, since I don't read fanfiction anyway.

Well I've heard people say it has cool villians and schemes.

It starts out on the Fallout 3 sense of things. 200 years after the show (or rather a bit beyond that) after a war that destroyed the world.

@CDRW you see, when I get to shit like that I'll be more interested. but I'll probably have to sift through chapters of mean spirited stuff to get to it sad

It takes a lot of convincing to get me to look at anything [Grimdark]. I'm more receptive to just plain [Dark], but it depends.

@ Ginger: Yeah you will, just remember while you're slogging that Chekov's Gun is the author's favorite literary device. grin

Where are all the pegasi? Pretty much everyone of importance appears to be a unicorn. (admittedly annoying)

Fallout Equestria, while very dark, still lets you know that there is still hope. The world has become a horrible place, but when good ponies work together, they can bring omething good back to it (and some of that has already started before Little Pip leaves the stable).

The first chapters are pretty gory compared to the later ones, yes. You even get breather chapters in later arcs.

As for how long after the show it occurs, yes, about 250 years.

EDIT: [up]Where the pegasi are is explained. One is one of the main characters. The early characters are mostly unicorns as that's what Little Pip is used to.

The Pegasi sealed up the sky when the war started. They come in in like the last...fifth...of the story, I think?

Anyways, most of the ones we see are Complete Monsters. Except Calamity. He's a bro n_n
