I don't see how Magic is the strongest element, or how ANY of them could be considered stronger. They don't do ANYTHING unless they are used together. The only difference between magic and the others is that you have to get a group of friends together to make it appear, therefore causing everyone involved to learn a lesson.

[up][up] Then how about this?

Luna isn't stronger than Celestia.

But Nightmare Moon is.

Whatever those dark powers she gathered were, it granted her power like unto Discord.

[up][up][up][up] I just figure it's something she can do, I mean she takes the form of Nightmare Moon in Luna Eclipsed.

Where was it said that Celestia used the Elements on Luna? She shouldn't have been able to use them at all by herself...

@Ginger: You have a bad habit of ordering people to not share their opinions. Please don't do that.

[up] The intro to the first episode, man.

[up][up] The shape, yes. But I doubt she took on the same power she had as the real Nightmare Moon.

That was just an illusion. Her NMM powers came from her bitterness and anger.

[up][up][up] Third time in a day. New record.

[up] Does it say that in the episode?

@Enlong: To clarify, I didn't think you were wrong, I just don't see how it makes sense. I think the show made an error...

Her transformation into NMM was due to her fury over Ponies preferring the day to the night. I assume that would also be the source of her new powers.

I don't think it would screw up the lore of the Elements in the same episode that introduced them. I think, perhaps, the reason Celestia was only able to banish Luna instead of cleansing her was because she was wielding them all alone. The thing with having Twilight find the elements with her friends was so that she'd be able to use them at their fullest potential.

[up] Ah, so it was the power of the darkness in her heart.

[up][up]Faust implied there was some sort of outside force that caused her to change, stating that her transformation wasn't exactly her fault.

Or the reason she used her magic like she did as Nightmare Moon was because of bitterness and she always had it.

It makes sense to me Celestia was busy ruling, Luna must have had a lot more time to hone her skills.

@Enlong: No. Because I think that whole story is much more effective if it's clear that Celestia beating Luna doesn't matter. She could kick NM around all day and it still wouldn't make her lower the moon, it would only rob her of her beloved sister.

Beating her doesn't matter. That hypothesis only works if Celestia can beat NM by herself

It was her fault to a degree, a outside forcing just helping it along.

Here's another reason: I don't like show offs to be the stronger ones. The one who uses LESS power in my mind is he stronger one

[up][up][up] And I think it's an interesting story if banishing Luna was the only thing she could do, using the Elements all alone, and that she spent the next millenium looking for people who would be able to use them at their fullest and save her sister, so that she wouldn't have to do that again.

[up] But you love Trixie? I don't even know.

but again, I don't think that Magic is the "strongest" element. They certainly don't make any claims of that in-story...

@Enlong but that's what I mean, Using the elements or killing her sister are the only two options in my eyes.

I do hope that they actually go into what really caused Luna to turn into Nightmare Moon in a future episode...

Or they could do something like The Origin of Evil...

Yes. She didn't want to give up on her sister.

Also, there was the fact that Nightmare Moon kidnapped(?) Celestia during her return.

@ Bad

Not really, say that Celesita was more powerful (which I myself don't see it as, I think that on their own the sisters are equal), she still couldn't purify/banish Luna without the Elements, which a function specific to them. It's entirely possible that she could have owned NMM with raw strength, and purified her with Elements had she and Luna been working together, but Celestia didn't want or could not do either of those things so she just banished her instead.

Is there anything wrong with not wanting one of your favourite characters to be a pathetic weakling who could be bested by a casual cough from her younger sister? sad
