Yeah, pretty much. If he doesn't have it or know it he knows people who have it or know it: perhaps he has a friend who has something he needs that could 'fall off the back of a truck' or one who 'heard something while walking down the street'.
He does things by the book, but isn't afraid to get into grey areas: they're his sisters and they put themselves in danger at the drop of a hat, so he can at least ensure they have what they need because they're family and he loves them (and if you tell them he said that last part, he'll break your arms).

Dammit. And when everything was so perfectly set in stone in my head as well.
I even wrote down on the page. The siblings are a Power Trio
Daring/Id, Derring/Sperego, Darrin/Ego
Also, I still don't see Derring using Darrin all that much. After raising them for so many years and not being allowed to indulge her adventurer side, I imagine she'd want to get as far away from him and Daring as possible

Dam, biggest creation to have ever been created by this place and I've done sweet F.A with it!
I'll try to be more helpful.

I feel especially useless. What's worse: Having ideas but them being shot down or not having any ideas at all?

Well, I was thinking Darrin could take that into account and set things up so a certain trader has just the right thing Derring needs, but ensure it doesn't look like it's too perfect a coincidence.
This is a work in progress; And you did the whole "Daring/Derring" thing, didn't you?

@Ginger: They can still do the Sherlock Scan, he just over thinks everything where the Do sisters tend more towards the Leeroy Jenkins school of problem solving. They're smart, but only when it comes to archaeology. Like if Herpy had been in Sapphire Stone, he would have gone through a bunch of trouble trying to calculate the density and mass of the stone so he could disarm the trap, while Daring just steals it and deals with the consequences.

No worries, Ginger; your ideas get mixed in. =D I have no compunctions at all against him being able (and readily willing) to get his hooves dirts for his sisters.

@Rich I want Derring to be capable of doing SOME things on her own. She's supposed to be legitimately BETTER at this than Daring is. Darrin shouldn't force his help onto her. She's a big girl (the one who basically raised them in fact.)
I still like the idea that Darrin COULD be an explorer... but he doesn't want to. the guy who makes those videos?

^Yeah, that guy.
I also like the idea of Derring as a parent-surrogate. That could reinforce her... not scorn, but maybe underestimation? Her patronizing attitude toward Daring, anyway - she basically raised the girl, so it's kind of silly to think she'd be a better explorer, right? That sort of thing.

Maybe Darrin was an explorer in the past and was good at it (not as good as Daring, Derring and his dad but still good), and after a few high price artefacts he stopped exploring and used the cash to go into his current line of work.
#91966gingerninja 666Fri, 10th Feb '12 2:08:01 PMfrom Aboard The Damocles
There's elements of that, but the main issue I saw was that needing to look after her siblings stunted Derring's ability to be a full time explorer. She needed to spend more time looking after them, and that made her resent them a little. (Daring was especially bad, since she spent a lot of her childhood years exploring, it kept reminding Derring of the life that these kids had denied her) As soon as they were old enough to look after themselves she severed all ties with them and left to go on an adventure.

@Red That's it. At least in her first appearance, she's an antagonist. That's what makes The Trials Of Unity so effective, because she finally mellows out and reconciles with her family

Yea, that really does make Derring sound like a big jerk. Also, if Daring spent so much time exploring, why wouldn't Derring go along to keep her out of trouble?

@Bad I saw Darrin refusing to be an adventurer as an act of defiance against his parents. Their obsession and choice of lifestyle lead to them abandoning him and his sisters.
He became a hgh ranking planner/official due to his life with Derring. Derring saw him and Daring as a burden that kept her grounded. He never wanted to be a burden ever again so sought to be as helpful as he possibly could.
Not REAL exploring. kids stuff. Y'know, going into the woods exploring caves etc. It just REMINDED Derring of the life she should be having

Makes sense. So is he just good at exploring because it's in the blood, innate talent or he does actually practice just in case? Or is it just he has the unused potential to be a good explorer?
Daring Do and the Cave Full of Spiders: Daring Do must escape being grounded by her sister to investigate a cave in the local woods and claim the lost treasure of the dropped Adventure Pants Doll.

There's innate talent (exploring is in the Do blood) but I imagine he trains. If there's ONE thing Darrin doesn't want to be, it's a burden. No being held captive for him (except when Ahuizotl curb stomps him in Temple of Nightmare Moon)

In a place where mythological monsters exist, is letting a filly wander off into the woods or a cave unsupervised really a good idea (actually, this happening in real life might not be so great either)?
