Either that or they just massively simplified the process because the show is geared towards 6 year old girls.

This is going on my Best Line of the Day wall.

I thought it was so they didn't have to mess with a whole bunch of signs when they dubbed the show into other languages.
^Most of them probably can. Who was it who was helping Applejack with her baked bads? Pinkie?
Anyway, I have to say that I really like 'Dangerous Business's portrayal of Ponyville's society. Applejack and Dash discuss a drinking contest they held once, and Dash mentions that she likes beer. It fits in with the idea that most of the ponies in Ponyville are considered adults, even young adults like the mane cast. Someone posted a link a few pages ago pointing out that they were basically around 18-22 going off standard horse age scales... so, yeah. I feel like the ponies are more autonomous than they appear in the show, simply because of the demographic.
...I can't believe I'm arguing that a children's cartoon dumbs down a realistic magical sparklepony society.

Which ponies actually sparkle?

sorry I guesss I took the debate seriously. Sorry I hate to debate, I tend to become a jerk when I debate. Won't happen again

Indeed.

I'm more interested in Spike's age. Twilight refers to spike as a baby even though he can speak fluently and can manage a reasonable work load. Maybe dragons are very quick to learn.

Collegish, then.

Perhaps dragons have a hundred-year childhood, as Hesiod says men did in the Silver Age?
“Love is the eternal law whereby the universe was created and is ruled.” — St. Bernard
Perhaps they age quickly as children then slow down a lot as they enter maturity. Seeing how adult dragons treat the little ones (If that one encounter with Spike and the big one is anything to go by), little dragons need to grow up quick if they want to survive without someone taking care of them.

Most likely. The fact that Twilight hatched Spike since she was a filly (sp?) and had years worth of magical equcation might suggest that Spike is around 4-8 year old.
Speaking of Twilight's flashback, did anyone else did anyone else find it odd that some ponies had a dragon egg just ready to hatch? I'm curious of Spike's parents and what might have happened to them.

They horde a lot of gemstones, what do they leave for the little guys?

If I had to guess, it seems that dragons mature mentally rather quickly, but then spend a long time maturing physically, with traits like their wings, stronger firebreath, and such. It's also possible that purple dragons look completely different from red and green dragons when they're adults, too.
