True, but a lot of people like PVP, and I'd like there to be some combat in a pony MMO even if its just PVE.

Ya know, go on adventures with an Earth Pony tank, Pegasus healer, and Unicorn wizard. Explore Cloudsdale and look at the pretty cloud statues of Firefly. Go on an epic raid to The Moon where you fight off the remnants of Nightmare Moon's army from 1000 years ago...

Or just grind to 80 by baking cupcakes.

You know, that sort of thing.

Like I said earlier, Pony combat in a pony mmo should be Earthbound-esque, so it's usually nonlethal with the opponent surrendering or getting knocked out, or broken apart (constructs), returned to the dust of the earth or laid back to rest (Undead), get banished back to the shadows (Nightmares), returned to their senses (mind-controlled/hypnotized/Discorded/posessed).

As far as species affects behavior, it's not very extensive or all-encompassing but does have a major influence (Dragons have a fearsome temper, Ponies tend to have herding mentality and tend to be less aggressive than predator species, cats tend to be smug and tsundere, humans and apes tend towards some degree of tribal socialization and are very curious about things, that sort of thing).

Also, Ponies should have social stats that can affect dialogue choices, if that is somehow code-friendly. A snarker would have the option to be deadpan or brutally sarcastic, Quiet types would normally be unable to choose "fierce" or "Loud" options, and so on. Personally I would let a player start their pony as a blank-flank, then pick a Cutie Mark after a certain point based on their pony's stats and personality. They'd get to choose from a few Marks which are procedurally generated based on some presets.

It would also be funny to have Vent-assisted machinima of a pony game

Like the conversation wheel from Star Wars:TOR?

Yeah, that could work! It would also be possible for players to defect to other factions or something through dialogue choices. Like say, your pony persuades their way into another group with a clever word or two.

We got some artists here, like Kuroi, Mousa, and probably myself.

Well I'm pretty good at programming, but all I've done before is 2d platformer type games.

As far as MM Os, I've heard the hardest part is the word massive. Making multiplayer games per se is relatively straightforward, but if you want it to scale, you'll need millions of dollars.

Yeah, the biggest part of mmo rpgs are their network infrastructure and getting good network "pipelines" with as low a ping as possible, which is not cheap.

What would the story for the game be?

I would vote for it to take place in the pre-Nightmare Moon post-Discord era, with the kingdom basically halved between the Sisters. Choices in the game make you a "Moon Favoring" pony or a "Sun Favoring" pony, based on ideals or something.

Honk honk option needs to be present. I went through the entirety of Dragon Age II picking that option because it was hilarious.

I agree with just before Luna's rebellion. You could even have different endings (with of course the Canon ending being Celestia winning).

Those are more often interrupts than dialogue options.
