I smypathize with Rarity, as the most artistic and generous of the Mane Six myself. She is The Liby but she isn't completely horrible, in fact she is a awesome character. She isn't selfish or cold or even bitchy, she's into fashion and beauty but she's not shallow and she's still kind of good spirited.

When I first started watching, Rarity was one of my least favorite characters, but after I watched more episodes, I liked her a lot better. I think part of it is that Sonic Rainboom was the first Rarity episode I saw.

I like Rarity because it's very clear that she really wants to be a good person.

Nobody can deny that she slips. There are episodes, like Sonic Rainboom, where she gets caught up in something else and loses track of her initial goal. Heck, in that episode, she was the one most determined to help Rainbow, to the point of becoming a magic guignea pig, before she got caught up in the dangerous fabulousness of the wings.

The thing of it is, though, is that she understands when she's doing something wrong. For example, in Green Isn't Your Color, she realizes immediately that she's being unfairly jealous of Fluttershy's success, and while she can't stop herself from feeling that way, she understands that she isn't in the right, and does what she can to keep quiet and let Fluttershy enjoy her fame. In some other show, a character in that situation probably wouldn't be so self-aware until the end of the episode.

Heck, in Suited For Success, she makes the dresses exactly as her friends want, despite it offending every sensibility she has as a designer, because it's what her friends want, and she is going to give it to them if it drives her insane.

Yes, she's a bit vain, yes she's a bit greedy, and yes, she has a bit of a problem with losing focus. But she wants to be a good person, and when she backs up and looks at the big picture, she's perfectly willing to admit when she's wrong and do the right thing, no matter what it takes.

And I think she's good enough at what she does to justify a little preening, wouldn't you agree?

Yeah, I didn't like Rarity at all when I started watching. It took a long time for me to warm up to her.

I like them all about equally, though.

My issue was never that I thought Rarity was too much of a jerk... I was just never particularly fond of her.

Whenever she does something cool I acknowledge it and I like her personality. She just never made me feel anything particularly strong

I wasn't to fond of AJ at first, and though I did grow to like her more, there was nothing wrong with that, or with your ambivalance to Rarity.

@Enlong: That pretty much sums up how I feel about it. Part of the reason I like her is that she seems to be the pony who's most able to recognize her own flaws; I mean, look at Sisterhooves Social. She realized that she had treated her sister badly all on her own and immediately tried to find her and make up for it. She needed AJ's advice on how to do that.

Also, I'm with Red in the fact that Discord's seal was would have broken even without the CMC fighting in front of it; the show says pretty unambiguously that it was weakening because the Elements of Harmony weren't tuned to the ponies who created the seal any more, so I'd almost be tempted to say that the CMC's argument was the result of Discord starting to break out, not the cause.

I might just be missing something, but that link has jack all to do with what you say it does.

From what I'm seeing so far, WeLoveFine's just going and changing all their Derpy merch to either Ditsy or Pony. So long as it's still up, I can't really complain. :/

@Red - Fuck, not again! Fixed it.

@Demon: That's good news, I suppose. Not sure what they're going to do with stuff like this but at least it's better than getting rid of everything with her on it.

Yeah, anywhy, I agree with what's been said about Rarity. She has her flaws, but she's the first one to admit to them, and she works hard to make her friends happy.

Yeah, it looks like they're just changing the titles of the shirts that say "Derpy" to "Pony". And "Cutesy Bags", apparently. Also, Ditzy Doo is mentioned in the description of this hoodie. Where is your canon now? Mwhahahaha!

EDIT: I also like how this one says Derpy is a "he" in the description. Does "Derpy" count as a Tomboyish Name or something? :P

@dmysta - I don't know about the rest, but I absolutely LOVE TS, RD, and AJ.

I think show canon trumps merch canon, but I really don't care that much whether she's Derpy or Ditzy as long as they don't overdo it and disown her or anything.

My top 3 ponies are Twilight, Rarity, and Fluttershy. Rainbow Dash and AJ bounce around in the 4th place spot, and Pinkie is last. I still like her, but I'm not an enormous fan of the "random for the sake of random" type of comedy, and she isn't as relatable as the other ponies, at least not to me.
