I don't think it was entirely messed up; the cutie marks always were a sort of "they'll appear when the time is right" kinda thing. The point in both episodes was that you can't make them appear.
That said, it's not really my favorite episode either. There wasn't much of a plot, and we didn't really learn a whole lot about the mane cast that we didn't already know. Pinkie Pie and Twilight's backstories were kinda interesting, but other than that, they were all sort of predictable.

I think my favorite episode so far is "Suited for Success", though really anything with Rarity in it is generally hilarious.

I think she was just the pony version of the skinny girl and the shy girl mashed together for a while, with maybe some lonely girl mixed in. If this wasn't mostly sunshine and buttercups, she would have had black hair, lots of dark make-up, and chains and stuff.
She did have different proportions, but I liked it, it made her look awkward and gangly, which was what I thought they were going for.
But who knows, maybe the artist got wrong.
As far as the message goes, I suppose you could see it as some sort of psychic contrivance about destiny, which while natural, perhaps, for the Pony world, is a bit more difficult applied to our world. Not that some people don't believe in it, mind you.
Well, remember that, in Griffon the Brush-Off, Fluttershy said she was a year older than Pinkie, and presumably the others as well. So if she was older, then she could conceivably have been going through an awkward growth spurt when she got her cutie mark.

I don't think there was supposed to be a moral or a message in CMC. Remember at the end when Twilight was dictating her letter. She was basically gushing about how lucky her and her friends were to get their marks at the same time. Spike even says: "When did you get so mushy?" I take that as a cue to say "There was no message to this"

I think you're probably right. It wasn't so much "I learned this about friendship" as "Guess what we found out today!" kind of thing.
My favorite episode is probably either Suited for Success or Green Isn't Your Color.

I think his question is whether that confirms Fluttershy being a year older than the rest of the cast, or Pinkie being a year younger than everyone else. We know that everybody was in the same "class" so to speak, but it doesn't tell us whether everyone is the same age as Fluttershy, and Pinkie is just a year younger than everyone else, or if everyone is the same age as Pinkie, and Fluttershy is just older.
I lean towards Fluttershy being older, for no particular reason. I just think it fits better.
A Dog and Pony Show is propably one the least favorite episodes for me (but I still like it)
Flutter is year older thant PP, filly Pinkie look same as rest of filly mane cast, Fillyshy is diffrent, taller thant them. It's obvious.
