Episode 18.

And I meant what I said about knowing someone was going to tell me that.

It’s highly probable that Satan has chosen [Lauren] Faust to be his modern-day emissary of evil. The signs are clear.

Ok, yeah, I see the issue people have with them. I'm not really that irritated, but this episode indicates that future Cutie Mark Crusades are going to have them continually fail to actually realize what their obvious talents are. Correct? I can see why that would bother people.

And now, sleep.

They get a little bit better in the 2nd season, but yeah. The next focus episode they get is even more blatant about them ignoring their obvious talents.

Anyway, I'm going to bed too. Probably should have done that an hour ago.

Good night to you, work goes on for me :V

A repost to my previous explanation about why the Apples would have otherwise lost the farm when they lost to the Flim-Flam brothers (Spoiler warning for newbies still working through Season One) Also posted to our Fridge page.

I understand the fridge brilliance about losing the farm (spoiled for Arha's sake), but I still don't understand why the Brothers seemed to assume that the farm would go to them. They won cider-production rights. They didn't win the land, the buildings, or even any apples outside of what was used for the competition. If the episode hadn't gone on to give the Apples a way out, then at the least they could have refused business to the Brothers, and told them to get off of their property, which was still their property, for however long they'd be able to still maintain it. Maybe write a few letters to the countless orchards run by the extended Apple family, tell them about what happened. Good luck getting any apples now, Brothers.

I have a message from another time...

They expected to be able to buy the land that could AJ couldn't afford anymore, I guess. Also they were riding on the high of victory, probably. (spoilered for Arhu's sake)

The brothers were just being assholes and rubbing it in. A lot of people say that the brothers weren't actually con men like they expected going into the episode, but they sort of were, and the con was making the Apple family think that their situation was much more dire than it was. Their talk about owning the farm and tearing down the old buildings was them still playing up the Apple's hopelessness, when really they still had other ways of keeping the farm.

[up] Actually, that's a good point. They probably would have tried to cut the deal with the apple family again after that - after all, they still needed their apples to make cider.

And they wouldn't have been anywhere near as generous the second time around.

A 75/25 split counts as generous now?tongue

They would have scalped on any subsequent deals.

I'm sure word would have been spread to the rest of the Apple Clan (family grapevine). Those two might be looking at some serious difficulty from the Clan in the future.

Any town with an Apple outpost will never see hide nor hair of the Flim Flams, because the Apples will see them first and chase them off.

I wonder if there even are any apple farms that aren't owned by their extended family. There sure were a lot of them at the reunion. You might need to go halfway to Zebra country to find an apple farm not owned by them. Flim and Flam may have shot themselves in the hoof by ticking them off.

I'm now picturing them finally wheeling into Appleoosa, only Braeburn recognises them from one of AJ's letters, and they end up in serious bother. Or they run into a face we all know and love, and hilarity ensues [lol]

[up] [lol] Why can I imagine Banjo music playing over that last panel?

mornin' everyone. waii

I wonder if Spike was being serious when he mentioned Sapphire season? XD I can't imagine what it would mean for ponies if it IS a real thing, mind.

Personally, I imagine Yakkety Sax playing for it...

Ginger, you truly are some sort of mutant.

I guess sapphires are grown. Spike grew that gem from Excess after all. Pinkie's rock farm looks more plausible every day.

[up][up] So did I!

Then again, I imagine Yakety Sax playing over everything, including major disasters and Magic: The Gathering demons.

I guess I'm kind of weird that way.

You make them sound like some kind of pony mafia.

Clearly (Gr)Annie Smith and her descendants "Went Legit" when she founded Sweet Apple Acres, and the rest of the Clan respect them too much to protest such a move.
