I honestly don't understand why Faust just didn't throw a Rainbow Dash and change Pinkie to a Pegasus anyway instead of making Fluttershy a Pegasus out of nowhere, though Pinkie is the one G3 character that honestly looks almost completely like her G3 counterpart.

Yeah, Pinkie works better as an EP...makes her rule of funny powers funnier (though Hummingbird wings would have been funny)...and her baking skills reinforces the notion that E Ps are connected to food.

Rainbow and Fluttershy have best relationship.

My main point is that Pegasus Pinkie would work...if they toned down her Rule of Funny powers. If she could fly, she wouldn't need the "I can screw the laws of physics" jokes to pull off most of her weirdness. You could still have stuff like from "Green isn't your color" where she pops out of random places, but she wouldn't need to be able to teleport or anything.

What's interesting is that the "original designs" for the characters was from before she was even called on for the show. They were simply fan-art of hers for various G1 ponies.

In fact, after the show began, she got rid of the original fan-art, I think because of the same copyright reaons that prevented her from actually using Posey and Surprise and the rest.

Of course, that didn't stop them from making little references: Like Twilight's mother looking like G1 Twilight, or Fluttershy's role in Hearth's Warming Eve being named "Pansy", or that Wonderbolt that has Surprise's color scheme.

Another interesting thing from the pitch bible was that Faust wanted Rainbow to be a prankster in more than one episode, but the execs wouldn't have it.

Of course, that changed as of Luna Eclipsed, so there ya go.

Yeah Lauren's early sketches are really interesting.

Basically, this would be what Pegasus!Pinkie would have been like.

Also, the concept art of Fluttershy from the pitch bible show her wingless and with butterflies cutie mark instead of Posey's flowers, which leads me to believe that the G1 ponies she originally drew (like Firefly, Surprise, Posey, etc) were done before being hired by Hasbro or simply done before the pitch bible was made.

Oh, yeah. I saw those a few weeks ago. Some of the resemblances to the finished characters are uncanny.

Hm... Might actually jump onto that, Bad. I've done something a bit like it before, but school wound up too heavy for me - but there's a pretty decent time limit there, and even if I have to forfeit Exposure is still exposure.

Well, I'm guessing that he'll be a bit of a grump, given that he has "Cranky" in his name. And it just sounds more masculine. It just feels weird to have a female character named like that. I suppose it's still possible, though.

Yeah I think it'll be a 'he'...and they'll be grumpy but not completely anti-social...they just perfer their own company.

I am in the male camp as well, the real question is if the show will ship him with PP.

I really wish I could draw... I've been tossing an epic idea around in my head involving the Mane Six charging into battle against a horde of invasive monsters (related to a different idea I've had for well over a decade).
