See Ginger, that's your problem. The way people think about fictional characters shouldn't be capable of causing you depression. You need to work on not caring about your entertainment so much. I kinda understand, because honestly, I have the same problem, though much much less severe. I don't really worry about what people think about things I like, but I DO get too emotionally attached to my favorite bits of fiction, to the point that I get more choked up over fictional events that real life tragedy.

I'd like to say something to help you, but I think you need to realize you do actually have a problem.

Ginger, your problem is that you say you need validation for liking things. And then, as soon as anyone disagrees with you in the slightest, all of that "validation" seems to go away and you become a miserable wreck. That really makes no sense at all. You like things because you enjoy them. Why the hell should you care if someone else doesn't? The same goes for things you don't like, too. You opinions are your own and you should be proud of them.

Oh, I know I have a problem. I also know that this show has brought me the most joy I've felt in years.

This is peanuts compared to how Code Geass and Death Note made me feel

I kinda have the opposite problem. I don't really care what anyone else thinks... which means I end up completely out of touch with society.

@Ginger: I don't watch much slice of life either. In fact I pretty much detest the whole moe-squad-slice-of-life style that's taken over the animes these days, which is why I kinda got out of anime.
