@Ginger: I read that as Blue Twilight. That's kind of a badass name actually. I kinda forgot that episode, it was one of the very early ones, back when I was not at all sure I was into the show or not. I do remember Twilight harvesting all those trees. I don't mind high-powered characters but that STILL bugged a little.

It makes me think that Applejack really needs to hire some more workers for the farm, despite being awesome she seems to run into trouble a lot. Though I suppose she probably doesn't make enough profit to hire anyone, I hear real farmers run into that problem quite often.

Sweet Apple Acres is kind of a special case though: it's basically right next to the town, so she wouldn't have to pay the workers to live on the farm, they could just commute.

I really don't see any of the others being smug or even really caring if RD likes reading, I'm betting it'll all be in her head that they'd mess with her if they found out, and when they finally find out, it'll be "meh, ok so you like reading, what's the big deal?"

That wouldn't surprise me at all. But yeah, I can't really imagine the relevant cast members being smug about it either. I could see Twilight being happy about it, but more about the fact that Rainbow Dash enjoys it so much.

Sucky dial-up is sucky.

Anyway, don't worry, Ginger. If Twilight is smug, I suspect a lot of us will be lining up to smack her.

This is kinda random, but in the latest episode, at what point do the Apples make the comment about needing the cider to get through the winter. I don't remember that comment.

@ Ginger: I have a problem with overpowered characters if they're powers ruin the story or render other characters useless. Good writing can keep this from happening though, a lot of my favorite things do a great job of handling overpowered characters.

MLP does a decent job, since first of all it is mostly slice of life and therefore who has the most power doesn't really matter most of the time. But unfortunately they often pull the "character doesn't bother to use their power because it would end the episode in 5 minutes" routine.

Overpowered characters don't bother me unless the power is used as a Deus ex Machina. Twilight's magical skill doesn't bother me because she never really pulls it out of nowhere to resolve the plot. If she did, it would bug me. But as is, the fact that she's uberpowerful doesn't really make much of a difference most of the time; when her magic is actually relevant to the plot, she screws it up more often than not.

The Sonic Rain Nuke is kinda meaningless though. It's really cool, but its only purpose attacking something. 1) the ponies are pretty pacifistic, so they aren't going to resort to it under most circumstances.

2) if they DO have to fight something, they'll just use the Elements of Harmony, which are WAY more overpowered and have never failed to defeat anything in one shot.

@Blue when have they not used powers they could have which would have ended the story? Only one I can think of is Boast Busters, and WHY Twi didn't do it is the major part of that episode.

Twilight tends to forget her teleportation ability a lot, although in some circumstances (fighting the hydra) it's forgivable, as she doesn't exactly think on her feet well.

Dude, that's once scene out of the entire series. Just because she can levitate a whole lot of crap at once doesn't mean that she invalidates the entire rest of the cast.

Really? I know Superpower Lottery is a sore spot for you, but I thought it was kind of cool.

Besides, Celestia could have probably harvested the entire farm at once.
