I've been mashing the Random Page button on this site for about a year or two, and then I lurked in this thread for a few months when I first started watching this show, and then I made an account just to post in this thread. I'm not even sure how long I've been here here... the lurking and not lurking blended together so much that I can remember discussion from before I ever made an account.

It hasn't been more than a month or so though.

I can't really remember how long I've been on Tropes. I found the site a couple years ago, but I didn't actually make a account until much later. This is either my second or third handle, I can't recall which.

If you watch it backwards, it's about a magic shark that fixes a guy's boat and vomits up so many people they need to open up a beach.

I've been on the forums since last february. Come to think of it... I got started on the forums for this thread exactly. Which means I've been on for almost exactly a year. Neat!

I'd first found the site around october in 2008, though, and that's when I got started a least browsing around since then. So four years. Cool!

I remember back when there was a trope called Rape The Dog. I think it was one of the first articles I ever read, since I first encountered the site through a link to Kick the Dog.

storyyeller I believe. Could you tell us how you do that btw story?

I wrote a Python script to download a copy of the thread. The when I want to calculate statistics or search for something, it just parses all the HTML and does whatever calculations.

Also, storyyeller, who was the first person here to invoke Godwin's Law?

I read through the first 184 pages of the thread recently, and IIRC, there as one surprisingly early on, like in the first dozen pages. It wasn't very serious though and it was even lampshaded.

@Ginger: The main issue was that a number of sex and violence tropes were accumulating really nasty and disturbing stuff. Like at one point there was a TT entry for Brother-Sister Incest, and stuff like that. Eventually they came to the conclusion that it was easier to axe the whole thing because it wasn't really the point of the wiki anyway, and it was causing enough drama that it wasn't worth keeping around.

Oh man, I remember Rape The Dog. The renaming thing was one of the first big drama things that I was around for.

The first instance of 'godwin' is post 797, with the lampshading like I remembered. The first instance of 'hitler' is in post 5659. The first instance of 'nazi' is in post 63, but that's referring to the Gen1 penguins.

I discovered the site in '06-ish, but didn't join proper until around '07-ish and even then I was doing YKTT Ws until I discovered the forum. That was when we used YKTTW to rename tropes. The repair shop wasn't even a pipe dream then... IJBM sub-forum was tiny...

Hm....I remember finding Tv Tropes years ago, long before I even had an account....I followed a link from a Zutara Highschool AU comic-the writer was gushing about her comic being used as an example on said page- and well...the rest is history.

I don't honestly recall what year that was...I have a bad memory for dates.
